Master Map Maker …

Another part of our job is to put together the routes that we’ll be flying. To get an idea of what that’s like just image someone threw about 20 Jigsaw puzzle pieces randomly on a map and told you to find the best route to connect all of them. The fields are spread across Indiana and Illinois and we generally pick a path that would allow us to fly over each of them in a specific direction (Either East/West or North/South) in the shortest, most efficient way. A lot of the fields are so wide or long (or sometimes both) so that they require two passes. It’s actually kind of fun as it’s a little like a puzzle game. All that’s left now is to hope that the routes that i built are actually practical to fly (Since I put the routes together myself I guess I’ll have no one to blame … except the farmers … trololol).

If the weather holds up, tomorrow will be the first day we’ll be flying the planes with the camera gear on board. This should be pretty interesting as we’ll get to practice on the local area route … which is a little challenging by the looks of it (I would love to show a picture of it but i am not entirely sure what i am allowed to divulge to the public and so i fall back to the safe “nothing at all”). But once we get the hang of that it should make the rest of them fairly easy.

Also pictures. Didn’t get to take a lot of them mainly due to lack of time but here are pictures of the power lines mentioned in my last post and the airport area.

Well that’s it for now and hopefully more exciting stuff will happen tomorrow.
