Recon Pilot

So on this fine Monday afternoon we took to the skies to try our hands at flying an actual survey route. For practice we did the fields belonging to the company owners which keeps us pretty close to home base. The route was pretty short with a lot of quick turns and surprisingly wasn’t as difficult as we thought. Granted my technique could use some refinement but that is something that will come with time as I get to know where the fields are and can line them up further in advance. It was actually pretty fun and it felt a little like being a military recon pilot … I just need to pretend that corn fields are actually air fields. As always the challenge at the end of the day was getting into the home strip. I know I’ll get it perfectly at some point but … I just miss runways that are actually flat. Sloping runways are always interesting, especially the ones that have an up slope and a down slope all in one stretch. Still a challenge is always a good thing and it’ll make for a better pilot in time. In other news I finally got my fancy new logbook. “The Senior Pilot’s Flight Log and Record” is printed in bold across the front and it certainly looks as professional as it’s called. Looking forward to filling it with awesome. Once again didn’t get a lot of pictures but at least you get a better look at the runway (if you look carefully you can see the hill in the middle of it).

Well it’s pretty late as it is and I should probably get some sleep before tomorrow. With any luck the winds won’t be as high as fore-casted and we’ll actually get to do a full blown route to the south.
